On 18th, i have passed SCJP 1.5 with an examination score of 100%. But I am not happy because today after I registered my name in Sun's Certification Database, i have found that there is no information that is telling i have scored 100% in the exam. Although i have received a Mark Sheet with a prometric stamp immediately after giving the exam but it looks like a Xerox Paper.

And thanks to Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates, Khalid Mughal, Herbert Schildt, Gary Cornell for their excellent books and our institute teachers for their enormous help

Actually i followed the following books

SCJP - Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates
SCJP - Khalid Mughal
The Complete Reference - Herbert Schildt
Core Java Volume 1 - Gary Cornell
&
SL 275

Truly speaking i have not understood JAVA just by reading only one book. So I followed each of the above.
Also, I have not solved too many MOCK questions but I have done lots of programs in many different ways.

Actually I was little bit afraid as this was my first prometric exam and the pass marks for 1.6 is 65%. So I started with 1.5 which requires only 59% to pass. Also my friends told me that any prometric exams are very very tough to clear which made me worried.

So, at that time I thought that if I fail in the exam, my 4000 rupees(voucher cost) will go to dustbin. So, I took the easier exam first.

Also, SUN should allow the students to sit for at least TWO EXAMS FOR A SINGLE VOUCHER so that if students fail in the first exam or if their marks are not satisfactory, they can sit for the 2nd exam with the same voucher. I personally know many poor students who failed in the SCJP exam and now they cannot afford to sit for the same exam again due to high voucher costs.

SUN, MICROSOFT, ORACLE etc all should lower their voucher costs.

Read the whole book (keep kathy sierra as main book and other books as reference) as many times as you can. If you find any particular topic difficult to understand from a particular book, read it from other reference books. Download ebooks.

Read it as a story book in the night. Always keep the book (or XEROX copies of the difficult topics/programs) with you while you go to college or to workplace. Think about the difficult topics/programs at your leisure time.

For codes, I should tell that if you want to learn programming deeply always write codes. Write any code given in any book. Just write it, run it. If the codes in books are not complete try to complete it then run it.

ALWAYS WRITE CODES

These are my few cents

Look in our SCJP forum for discussion about questions that people have while preparing for the SCJP exam. Note that the SCJP exam is copyrighted by Sun, people are not allowed to copy and redistribute questions from the real exam.

But only if they are legally available for free or if you paid for them, ofcourse.
