A ballot on whether to publish the draft standard ISO/IEC DIS 29500, Information technology Office Open XML file formats, as an International Standard by ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) has not achieved the required number of votes for approval.
Signing the petition is just that - publicly stating that you're supporting it.
Oh okay So its just THAT right?. I just wanted to check I hadn't forgotten how to read or my eyes weren't deceiving me or something.
When I say what would that entail? I mean to ask just that. What would that(MS office format becoming a standard) entail? How would that affect me? what are its practical repercussions? This seems like something webservice providers might be interested in? enlighten me a bit.

But individuals are being allowed to sign this petition regardless of country of origin(no drop down menu to restrict).
