Hi,
I am not a complete new-bie to java. I did my SCJP and i intern with Sun writing a lil bit of code for them at the IEC. But that means i only learnt the structure and havent actually done any coding (Apart from small college projects). But i would like to work on a real time java project for about 4-5 hours a day, enhancing my skills. Any pointers? Or projects?

I assume you mean "real world", not "real time" since that's a very unusual niche for Java to be used in (see Java RTS).

To make sure you stay interested in it, it's probably best to pick something that has actual value for you; isn't there something that you have long wanted to automate for your own purposes?

Washing dishes, which actually fulfills *both* the real-time *and* real-world monikers.

I tried that, but the water ruined my hard drive.

thanks.

Though i can automate some stuff - i think there's a better and easier way, or probably a much more elegant way of doing the same thing. I guess i need a "reviewer" that sees my work.

Hmm... washing dishes. Sure. That helps.

You never responded when asked if you really meant "real-time"; my tongue-in-cheek suggesting fulfills the requirement of being both a real-world application and a real-time system. Any modern electric dishwasher has a computer in it, and a robotically-enhanced dishwasher certainly would.

If you're asking for peer review of your code I'm sure there are plenty of people here that would be glad to offer their input.

Hehe. Yeah, i meant real world. Took a bit of time to get back - ive some distributed computing and transaction processing exams to write...so was a lil pre-occupied in trying to study them (Its mostly last minute scurrying.... )

However, yes, dishwashing does sound interesting - now that i am enlightened with the fact that there's something like the Java RTS (Thanks to you, actually. Was blind to it before. Was browsing through it).

Yes, i meant that it would be nice to have someone see what i write and tell me how bad/good it is.

Any volunteers?
