Walk Score: 71 out of 100, Very Walkable: It's possible to get by without owning a car

I call shenanigans. I entered my address and it computed the walking distance to establishments that were nowhere near my neighborhood, ignoring the nearby stuff.

It should at least make an attempt to be accurate.

I dunno, Bear. For my neighborhood (which scored 83) it did a good job of choosing the closest establishment of each type - often finding a small locally-owned business instead of a national chain, if the former was in fact closer. Maybe some neighborhoods have more accurate data than others for some reason.

During the week I live in Merchant City, Glasgow --> score 85
And at the weekends in the Newcastle area --> score 29

Wow, I only got a 45, and I thought my neighborhood was very walkable! That's even after it included a 7/11 that's gone, a number of businesses that never existed (at least in the 15 years I've been living there), and counted a few places that are within 1.5 miles only if you are a crow flying, or don't mind running across an eight lane freeway.

However it did miss several restaurants within 1/2 mile of me, and totally neglected that I have a duck pond across the street. So there!

It's kind of hit and miss. For "Grocery Stores" it picked an AM/PM that's 4 kilometers away (who does their grocery shopping at AM/PM?) and totally ignored the supermarket that's 600 metres away and another one that's 1.7 km away. In fact it didn't seem to know many grocery stores at all. But for restaurants (something we use much less frequently than grocery stores) it had a pretty accurate inventory.

32 out of 100. If you wanted to see a movie you have to walk over to the next city. If you did not want second-hand clothes you would also have to walk over to the next city over. We don't even have a Walmart!

That's my neighborhood too (which scored 60). Walking distance is one thing. But how feasible it might be to actually travel that route on foot...

Mine was 78. They have a funny sense of distance. It reported .24-.25 miles for stores both two blocks away and eight blocks away. Hmm. One of those seems wrong.

Conceptually, I do agree that I live in a walkable area though.

11/100

I'm scared though. I put in my address without a city, state or country and Google found me.

has getting mugged/stabbed/shot at been factored into this? What about falling into a pothole? or being run over by a blue line?
