A Thompson Technologies client has an immediate opening for a Java Architect for a 6 month contract opportunity in St. Louis, MO.

In this role, the Java Architect will design and develop product suite and implement software for clients. You will also mentor clients and partners in using the products to develop applications.

Additional Responsibilities:
Lead and coordinate technical activities and artifacts throughout projects.
Design software using the Unified Modeling Language.
Lead team of Software Engineers doing detailed design and development of software applications utilizing the development methodology: the Rational Unified Process (RUP).
Architect, design, and develop core components of software using Java, JDBC, Servlets, SOAP, XML, JSP, and RMI.
Plan and conduct formal reviews of the software architecture.
Plan and conduct design and source code reviews and ensure overall quality of code.
Responsible for coordinating or implementing rework feedback resulting from reviewing activities.
Test substantial components of applications as part of methodology.
Coordinate overall integration and testing of application components.
Mentor and direct Software Engineers as they develop portions of software.
Foster and maintain customer relationships on technical and business development topics.
Support Sales Teams in a technical sales support capacity.
Estimate technical project efforts for contracted and potential deals.
Make presentations to potential customers

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or related degree. Advanced degree in computer science preferred.
10 or more years of experience in software design and development, in addition to 5+ years of practical Java programming experience.
Intimate knowledge of Java programming, Java Servlets, Java Server Pages, Web Services, JDBC, SOAP, XML and RMI.
Strong grasp of UML and design patterns, particularly Model-View-Controller (MVC).
Strong understanding of Internet web application architectures and internet application design.
Strong database/SQL skills.
Familiarity with RUP or a similar methodology a plus.
Familiarity with GWT or AJAX a plus.
Familiarity with middleware products such as MQ Series a plus.
Ability to make educated, critical judgments in the absence of complete information. As the technical driving force behind the project, demonstrated leadership skills, project technical lead experience and strong communication skills are required.
Some overnight travel may be required.
