unable to understnad the syntax of JSTL

Hi, I am preparing for SCWCD. I am reading Head first series for that purpose. I am unable to get some of the things that they are trying to explain

They write a code something like this:


What is the big deal they are making by claiming that they should have got

but they got

I don't get it? What is this <div class='tipBox'>, Please explain that.

And another problem
This following code in not working at all.(tip.jsp)


The servlet code is :


I am making use of Eclipse IDE, and have imported the jstl and standard jar files in the lib directoty of WEB-INF.

I am unable to understand this concept. please help me. This program is not printing the tip. But if access ${requestScope.CurrentTip} it works perfectly fine.

What is this <div class='tipBox'>

That's an HTML div with a CSS class; there's nothing to get, really.

Are you sure they're saying pageContent and not pageContext?
