Hibernate2: hSession.connection().getMetaData().getTables(null,null,tableName,null) has a table that

Below is the method. It returns true even when the table does not physically exist (I connected to the db manually and checked)! Again this is hibernate 2. 1
disclosure: earlier in the code when I was creating the net.sf.hibernate.cfg.Configuration I did add the persistent class who's table is not there (we create tables with sql and just use hibernate to control the db - please no comments on that :-))
So my question is when I get the connection from the hibernate session does it return me a connection to the db (like it states in the API - the JDBC connection) that has nothing to do with hibernate? Why is this happening?
