The HTTP Put method puts the enclosed info of the request to the requested URL. I'm just wondering what's the real difference with Post (they almost have the same meaning english-wise).

Whatever you put in the requested URL can also be processed by the server.. Why create a method Put, when there's already Post, which is all that matters actually in the real SCWCD world.

Hoping for some clarification. Thank you!

There is more to the Internet than just the Web. Browsers may not be able to issue PUT requests, but they are very important and have specific meanings in other realms -- for example, in RESTful web services.

So it's basically for other purposes besides the web (http stuffs)...

I think in post you are sending data to the server in the way it asked you (for example, when you fill up the form or registering where form feilds are defined by server and it knows how to retreive individual feild when you post your information)

but in put you are sending information whatever you like and server will store as it is (for example , newspaper editors put the data in paper whereas readers post the comments providing comments feild is available).

yes, POST method is basically used for processing some data at server side. eg. username/password are sent to the server for authentication n authorization using this method.

but PUT method is used for sending some files/databases to be stored at server.
