How to call web services?

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi all,

In my current project(its a maintenance project) they have invoked web services from websphere portal layer. Basically, my application is splitted into two logical parts namely portal and services.

The portal runs on websphere portal server and the services runs on websphere application server. Both are two different servers (physically two different machines).

Given the above case, i find it very dificult to understand the code flow as to how the web service is invoked from websphere portal layer.

It would be great if anyone of you can explain this to me with a simple example. The application was built up usomg Spring DI (Interface Injection) and AOP and Java/J2EE related technologies.

Thanks for your time. Have a great weekend !

Cheers,

Hi!
How about thinking of the web services as just another library and not concerning yourself with whether they are located on another machine or not?
Strictly speaking, you do not need to know where the services are located (except, of course, to know where to send requests).
To understand the flow of the application, you only need to know the signature of the operations provided, the data to enclose in requests and the data you get back in responses - just like any other method/function invocation.
It becomes a little more complicated if you have asynchronous services, but just a little.
Best wishes!
