How to return a List in Ajax using struts

Hi All,

I have a drop down list which shows table names.
Now what I want is when selecting the drop down list, the column names should appear below with a checkbox option with every column name.
Every thing is dynamic here.Even the drop down is populated dynamically.

So what I need to do is sending the table name to some class and it should return a list of values(column names).

I want to do it using Ajax.
I am using struts too.

Please suggest me where to write server side code and how to return the list in jsp page. This is first time I am using struts and Ajax together.

Write your server side code in seperate action class. call it through the AJAX code in JSP.

I'd return the list in JSON format unless you want already formatted HTML. JSON is easy to digest in JavaScript and can be easily generated from Java classes using Google's Gson library (or a large number of other JSON libraries).
