Question for the guys that passed with such amazing scores (like 90-100% is really awesome)

I am inspired by knowing such standards are achievable.

Please can you say what training materials you used to gain such a thorough understanding ???

(for SCJA + SCJP)

I have just bought Sun CDs and found that material is missing.

Many thanks!

One way to score good is to go through as much mock exams as you can after going through a text book once. IMHO, taking mock exams should not be a separate cycle but should be integrated with text book study. For example, after each mock exam, read the topics on which you scored less from a book again, try out some hands on code, before moving to the next mock exam. For questions that you answer wrong, make sure you understand why you missed it.

I got 91% today))) I learned from book written by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. It is really good book! I worked it through several times.

By the way, I have development experience only for some months (before that I was software tester), so I did it almost only by knowing theory.

Well done Ave, 91% is fantastic!

I've seen people refer to K&B - I guess they are referring to Kathy & Bert?

What was the title of the book please ?? -- this was for SCJA or SCJP ??

Many thanks for replying to the post

Hi Nigel,

Maybe you can take a look at the FAQ-sections of each certification: scja and scjp. You will find lots of valuable information there (like which books you can read etc.).

And indeed K&B is the book of Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates. I used for both scjp exams I took already (1.4 and 1.5) the appropriate K&B book and in my opinion it's certainly a must read.

Kind regards,
Roel

Thanks Roel - still finding my way round the resources
thanks for the links I'll definitely check them out!

I'd still like feedback from a few folk who have made the high grades
to see if there are just a handful of real top training materials

K&B seems the top book for SCJP

Thanks for your posting

Thanks! Sorry, I did not specify, which exam I took - it was SCJP for Java 6. Yes, K&B means Kathy & Bert. Besides working through this book several times I also had very many mock tests. Knowing the material very well is prerequisite for doing tests well, but if you have seen a lot of mock tests, you know better what to expect from exam and what are the things to pay attention on.

Hi Nigel,
Try practising and studying codes that you found in mock exams and books.
It works for me. I cleared my SCJP 5.0 exam with 94%.

Hi Ave, thanks for the book details - still preparing for SCJA, will definitely buy K&B Java6 very soon, ready to start SCJP.
How long did SCJP study take you from beginning to end?
