The transaction in Single Thread does just that, it runs as a single thread on the JVM. Alternately, you could pass on to a EJB container or something to manage transactions instead.

You create many sessions in your applications, but typically one session per request-response cycle. That's a pretty oversimplified statement, but it holds true pretty good in most introductory scenarios.
