What is Dasara?

Rashmi,

The Dasara is on 9th October for the year 2008 according to this website.

Happy Birthday to your day in advance.

You need to look at Samvat (calendars) for 1959.

Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Ashwayuja or Ashwina. By this way you can locate the date of Dussehra in 1959 in Samvat (calendars). Then just substract 15 days in same.

That is date of your Dad's birthday in Samvat (calendars). Convert it into Gregorian Calendar.

Did you find it ?

As per my calculation Dussehra was celebrated on 11 October in 1959, but you need to verify same.

On 11th October 1959

Lunar Month - Aswini
Saka Samvat - 1881
Weekday - Sunday
Date - Shukla Dashami

As per this calculation on looking at Calendar of 1959 your dad's birthday would be somewhere on 24/25 September. You can validate same if your dad can recall weekday on his birthday

Hi Ranchers,
Thanks a lot for al your answers and time .

Shailesh as you said as per your calculation On 11th October 1959 do you think is it accurate, how you calculated it??

I did not find any other reliable source to verify OCT 11

If any body could verify from some reliable source and update that would be really great

Thanks in advance

I did a simple trick, as you know Indian horoscope works on lunar system. I added randomly 15 October 1959 in one horoscope tool, which gave me

Lunar Month as Ashwini and tithi as Shukla Chaturdashi, then I found I am close to tenth day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Ashwini.

On reducing 4 day I found the calculation of Dussehra.
