Exit Polls show Obama in Lead , but the same exit polls showed hillary Right on top before primaries started, were there instances in earlier elections where exit polls proved right

doesn't the term "exit poll" refer to polling people as the exit from voting?

Huh? Exit polls are of people exiting the polling places. Can't happen until election day.

Polls are showing Obama in the lead. Perhaps such a big lead that he will win.

But they are not "exit polls"

i question the validity of national polls anyway. We don't in this country have a national election for president, but 50 (51?) state elections. It's pretty simple to show that a person can get a minority of the popular vote, but still win the national election. I think it has actually happened (and i don't want to start the whole Bush V. Gore argument).

My point is, anybody having a lead in the national polls is meaningless. We need to know who is leading state by state, so we can to a electoral vote count.

Mostly because the Media thinks that the viewers are too stupid to understand the state-by-state polls. And state-by-state polls are a lot more expensive to generate.

And a national poll can take the temperature of the country quickly.

RealClearPolitics.com has what you want. And its shows a big landslide for Obmama.

That is right. I think OP got confused because "exit polls" are making some news in India, as the govt is regulating them.
