I took the exam last Friday (7/31/2009) and passed with 98% - missed one question. The one I missed was in the
Java implementation of OO concepts section. Anyway I felt good about my results.
I used the two books from Cameron McKenzie - the
SCJA Study Guide, and the Mock Exam Questions. I read them several times completely from front to back. First time for concepts and ideas, another time or two for more details and finer points, and then again, as needed, to refresh on some of the more complex concepts. I also used the UML document that has been mentioned here. And, I memorized all of the Java reserved keywords and literals.
Be prepared for anything on the exam; from simple to complex questions. I went thru the exam and answered the questions pretty much in order, but I marked the ones I wasn't quite certain about in order to return to them later. At the end of my first pass thru the questions, I was able to jump back to the ones I marked and re-review them. After I did that, I went slowly back thru all of them again starting from the first one. I was checking that a) I had given the correct number of answers asked for, and b) the answers I gave were correct (or as correct as I thought they were). I caught two rather simple mistakes that way so I'm glad I did it. Even with all that I still had plenty of time left.
Best of luck to those planning to take the SCJA exam. I'm now setting my sights on the
SCJP 6 exam.
