Okay, guy with the boss that likes streams is back. Now that we can establish Streams are it, I am looking for a little help in reading straight from the stream. Let me set this up a little bit:

A message comes across the network, within said message is a multitude of information that I need to parse out. This stream could contain name, address, PCL & Postcript (image to print), phone numbers, etc…

Within my Java application, I need to parse out name, address, etc…, and assign to hash map, or some reasonable facsimile there of, straight from the stream. The data coming from the stream should be positional data where the information would always be in the same spot.

So, if I knew start and end position of each value, any clues how I would get this information straight from the stream without doing any conversion to byte array or strings?
