I must have posted long time back, but was not active enough. First off..thanks to all Java Ranch members for your active support. Apart from teaching me effective java programming, you all have taken my problem solving skills to a next(higher..) level.

I cleared both SCJP and SCWCD. It took me 3 months of preparation for SCJP, the only and major mistake of mine was not taking enough mock exams. I strongly advise every certification aspirant to give as many mocks as possible, reading K&B twice is enough. There are illegal ways to get certified, but it wont take one anywhere. The feeling of getting certified on your own is something else..It has been more than 4 months since I passed SCJP, what I look back and see is..its just an exam. I have seen some folks going mad about it, it makes sense to get mad about java(to some extent) not SCJP.

I booked my SCWCD exam before I became SCJP. Time was very less for SCWCD, as I purchased the voucher from someone which was about to expire in two months, but with a retake option. I went to give the exam and failed by scoring 2% less. Only two more days of validity remained on the voucher, luckily by calling Prometric, I somehow managed to sit for the exam after two days and was able to score well. For SCWCD I just relied on Head First and some mocks here and there.

I scored 75% in SCJP 1.6 and 89% in SCWCD 5.

My sincere thanks to K&B, Ruben Soto, Punit Singh, Cameron McKenzie,Henry Wong, Balu Sadhasivam
,Ankit Garg and all my fellow ranchers for making my journey easy, btw..I bought a Honda Accord for myself after passing SCWCD. Actualy it was badly needed, after all, staying in US without a car for 4 years is not a easy thing to do.

My next step is SCBCD 5, just finished reading EJB in action couple of days back. Got to read it again.

Couple of very important names I missed is Mr. MCorey McGlone's for his excellent blogs which I enjoyed reading (and re reading) and Devaka Cooray for his free and very real simulator (not using it was a big reason for me scoring less).

Thanks again folks.

Hello Himalay Majumdar,

firstly an heartly congratdulation to you for clearing the Exam. What you have done is same as what i'm planning to do. I have already read K&B book once. Now can you please suggest me some ways so that i can clear my SCJP in next three months and Start my preparation for SCWCD. If Possible can you please send me some [ILLEGALLY COPIED MATERIAL] using which i can prepare and get passed.
One more question, Himalay do i need to join any classes to get certified because from last one year i'm working for java in my College that's CDAC but currently i'm working for an Company in Support team so till now i won't got any coding sort of thing to do... please give me some advice
Thankin you,

Thank you for the wishes Vivek.

For you..I would say to put one step at a time, just think about giving scjp for now..(even if you know SCWCD topics jsp, servlets etc)

NO..you dont need to go to coaching classes to learn just a language in this internet era.

I am glad that I did not go thru any specific [ILLEGALLY COPIED MATERIAL], try out many different questions..each will have a different flavor and will make you smarter. Thats what you want to achieve at end.

With the time frame you have.. I would say read K&B bit by bit again. Its better to read one good book twice than two books once.
Be an active java rancher..this will keep you focussed.

Practice by writing and tweaking lots of code in your computer. I made packages with name of the chapters...like Strings, Collections, Enum and filled them with lots of related classes.

This followed by lots of mocks..Devaka simulator, K&B master exam and Whizlab(not free). Note down your weakness everytime you answer a question wrong.

All the best

-Himalay
