Well its been a month since I gave the exam so I don't remember the questions word to word.
I noticed that around 20 questions I already knew because of the mock exams I gave. Many questions I had seen before! I even knew the answer before looking at the options. maybe I felt that way because of the number of exams I practiced.
Also, there were 2 thread questions I found difficult. I had never seen them before and I was doubtful about my answer. The questions on collections was not that bad.
It took me a few minuted to find out how to answer the drag and drop questions (really silly of me!)
I had enough time to answer all my questions, complete the unanswered ones and review every question twice. I still had enough time in my hands but I was satisfied with my answers.
I took around a month to prepare for my exam. I purchased the voucher a year ago but never got to sitting down n spending time to prepare for the exam as I was caught up with my last year of graduation. I gave my final exam on the 1st of June and had to start preparing as my voucher was expiring on 8th of July. I started of with Kathy's book. I managed to complete a chapter a day - a poor start I know! But it was on the 25th of June that I felt the pressure. I had completed all the chapters twice by 30th of June. Also, I started solving a lot of mock exams I found links to exams at Java ranch. This helped me a lot!
Some were really easy and I dint expect them on the exam but some were really challenging and yes - I did notice one or two in the exam. Its not that questions repeat. its just that you get confidant solving online exams so when you face the actual exam - it doesn't freak you out because you'll know how to solve it. And finally the last two days before the exam I read the book 3 more times concentration on threads and collections! I also practically practiced a lot of code while preparing. This helped me a lot. Also, going through the docs for collections and File I/O was helpful.
I woke up at 5 in the morning the day of the exam. got ready and went through the last minute drill in the book and got into the car at 9. My exam was at 10! i reached by 9 30 and just sat at the reception of my prometric center. While many like to read and cram up things at the last minute, i din't. at 10 15 i went in and before i knew it - i got my result! I dint expect much because i prepared for the exam for 15 to 20 days. When i was waiting for my printout of my result i was expecting a definite pass percentage and a decant score. When i saw an 83% i wish i pushed it to a 90%.
It is very much possible to score a 98 and i hope you do! good luck.
