I regularly use a fairly old applet from a trusted publisher on two or three different sites (different versions of the same program). I just upgraded to a spanking new MacBook Pro, and now, whenever I load this applet, I get a warning, "The publisher cannot be verified by a trusted source. Code will be treated as unsigned." Sometimes I have to hit return five times in a row to get it to go away. I went into Java Preferences and added the sites to my list of sites from which content would run automatically without prompting, and I checked the box that said, "Enable list of trusted publishers," but no joy. How can I convince Java to trust this applet? Just because it was hurt in the past is no reason never to trust again.... Using Safari 4.0.2, MacOS 10.5.8, Java 6.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
