I am new to java programming.

I am just assigned to write java beans application which requires communicating with another open-source EJB3 application. The two applications will be separately run in different PCs (and of course separate JVMs).

Can anyone give me some hints on how the two applications can be communicated (web services is not considered). Thanks.

You are new to Java and they assign you to an EJB project ?

The communication usually happens with a Lookup Service that handles the remote calls.

Welcome to JavaRanch

I am afraid we like to keep this forum for easy questions, so I shall have to move this post elsewhere.

Hi Sebastian,

Thanks very much. A little update. Both applications are EJB2.

Can you elaborate a little more on the Lookup services? Or can you point out some web resources explaining it? I have read the Sun's tutorial materials but I cannot understand.

Can anyone here offer a helping hand to me also? Thanks in advance.
