Not to hijack Stefan's thread, he had trouble putting the charcter "ü" in his username - it displayed as a question mark. I edited his profile and was able to use the character.

One difference I can think of - I entered the "ü" via copy-paste from wikipedia. I imagine Stefan typed it. Anybody from a country that uses umlauts able to try to see if there is a difference?

Jeanne,

Not sure if it matters now, but before you fixed it in Stefan's profile, i was seeing that character more like a comma ",". Although it wasn't a comma. Too bad i did not take a screenshot at that time.

This is the character i was talking about https://coderanch.com/t/430070/Java-General/java/Handle-Java-JRE-version-issues#1909668. See the quoted name Sbastien in Ankit's reply.

And from what i see in one of our MO discussion, this issue might have been introduced during migration to JForum where some of the characters weren't imported correctly. And looks like it's covered in this http://faq.javaranch.com/java/JForumTransition "Accented characters in display name and signature" which asks the users to fix it themselves (or we do it for them)

That would be it. It's been so long now, I wasn't thinking about it.

Thanks Jaikiran!
