I wrote this small program just to run a small test on local variables initialization. I am using RAD IDE for this.

this program compiles and runs fine in RAD of course with no output.
but when I tried to compile it using Command prompt, It gave me following error

I was just curious to know what could be wrong here.

Well, that error message seems to be legitimate. If your RAD tools allows that code, then there might be a bug in the RAD tool.

Try to compile programs from normal command line javac tool when you are preparing for SCJP. This is what you'll be tested on in the exam. The exam won't assume that you will be using an IDE or something that will for example fix imports for you etc...
