Interfacing RFID Reader with java application

Hi...
I am making an application using RFID reader as an authenticating device.. But As i m new to java so i dont know to how get the output (or signal) of RFID reader and use it in my application . i am thinking as if the user is authenticated and signal from device is positive so proceed with further logic or else reject.
plzzzz Help....
Also suggest me some economical RFID reader for my project.

I never worked with RFID.
But maybe take a look at Easy RFID kit.
