Hi all,

I just want to ask how long it is required to prepare SCJP exam normally.

I am 31, an experienced C++ programmer with 5+ years experience. I know basic JAVA and can do some simple projects. I don't know Java in very much detail.

The SCJP exam itself is not very useful for my current job. But I just want to add more bright point to my CV.

How long should it take to prepare it?

Regards,
Kevin

It should take about a month to pass the exam - if you study hard.

Noahsark welcome to javaranch.

As karthick said, it depends on how good a reader you are and how much time you can devote to learning...

To a certain extend. The SCJP test does not test you in terms of logical thinking. For the most part you need to remember things by heart (syntax, API contents etc.).

Yes, indeed. But if you are clever, you will be able to match some facts and you will reduce learning by heart.

True, some things can be done by just doing the math.

Generics are a good example, for instance when to use <T extends and <T super ..
Going into the rules of polymorphism guides you to the correct answer without really knowing by heart.
