This compiles fine (this is what you said, I suppose you said the opposite thing). The opposite is not possible



This is because an instance of Outer is needed to call the constructor of Inner2, thus this will not compile as the Inner1 constructor will try to call super() without instance of Outer. If you want to do it, then read this...
