What all the ways we can start a self part-time business, so that it can be helped when we are fired....

I have few ideas like starting blog and earning from Google ads and trying to develop small utility web site which may also add more adds....

Help with what? Income or positioning yourself to get another full time job?

You would go a different route depending on the two. For example, you could gain income by mowing lawns, but it's not likely to help you get a tech job. (although in theory it could via networking) At the same time, blogging is more likely to keep your skills active, but less likely to make money. You need to have a really popular blog for that to happen.

Jeanne i was thinking to do some thing which will update my technical skills and also help me to be in track. in mean time i also expect a decent amount of money should be earned. I agree with blogs which i am planning to do so .... how about freelancing is there any genune website from where i can start by doing any small project first???

any thoughts.....

Free lancing while working on a full time job is next to impossible. You can work on week ends but in the long run you will end up irritated with yourself since you have 2 commitments to keep.

You should worry about an alternative source and work towards it only when your primary dries up. But it pays to keep a backup plan.
