I've gone through different phases regarding how I look at birthdays.
For years I wanted no fuss whatsoever: "Hey, it's just another trip around the sun."
Then for awhile I used my birthday as an opportunity for deep reflection about the preceeding and upcoming year.
Then I lightened up and took the attitude that it's just a good opportunity/excuse to make some fuss/create a festive occasion out of a relatively trivial occurrence.

Trivial?? Maybe in that births happen all the time, but *your* particular arrival is a one time, special event. Definitely cause for celebration!
