Is the following possible:

I have a J2EE application that fetches some data from a database. The end user sends an email(with a message to be processed by the above mentioned J2EE application) to a mail server. The mail server uses the J2EE application to compose a reply and the user gets an auto-generated email containing the data that he requires.

If this is possible please show me the way and if it is not what other solution can achieve this kind of requirement

Couldn't the app have a web frontend that allows the user to interact with it? That way the web app could check that the user's request is well-formed and valid (something the mail server only discovers after the mail has been sent - there's no way to let the user know right then and there).

Thanks for the suggestion. I have another question : Is Apache JAMES the only java based email server available?

James is certainly the standard bearer of Java mail servers, and likely to be the most feature-rich. But there are bound to be others (a quick search will turn them up), like http://www.jsmtpd.org/.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
