So here I yam, back after 3 days pause (did anyone notice I was gone ). I was hit by a drunken bike driver who came to the wrong side of the road and even off the road where I was walking. I was on my evening walk, and there was a turn on the road there, and that fool was so drunk, that he couldn't even turn his vehicle on the road (the mystery revealed on how he came to the wrong side). He hit me up front, so I was left with a lot of cuts and bruises, hair fracture in one of my ribs and one finger, broken spectacles and a bleeding nose. Two strange people took me to the hospital (thanks a lot to them ). They told me that the kind of impact it was, I got away with very few injuries (maybe it was due to the good wishes of people on ranch ). The guy who hit me was also taken to a hospital, where he was given first aid and released. The hospital staff didn't wanted to involve themselves in any police related matters, so they didn't even noted his name or address . I was so pissed, that I couldn't even file a complaint against that guy cause no one knew who he was. But what I hope is that at least he'll learn a lesson and not drive after being drunk again.

PS: I'm typing with only 6 good fingers which have no injuries in them, otherwise I would've written many other things that I feel should be changed in areas like highway patrolling, government hospitals here etc

Please do not drink and drive; you put yourself and others at risk.

Ankit( Modern day Eklavya! ) - glad to know that you are doing well!

Stay safe!

Glad to hear you're getting better. I agree that it could have been a lot worse. It sucks that the other guy got away; might have helped the healing process psychologically to know that he's going to be slapped...

By the way, over here people can lose their driving license for being drunk on a bike just as well as for being drunk in a car.

Ankit,

Good to hear you are in one piece! Wishing you speedy recovery.

Scientific studies have shown, that in most of the cases involving automobile accidents, the drunk person is rarely hurt. This is attributed to the lack of proper muscle control in such persons. In case of collisions, these inebriated persons are thrown around like a rag doll and as such rarely suffer any bodily harm. It is the normal human tendency and reflex of stiffening the muscles which leads to broken bones and similar predicaments.

Moral of the story: Drink and walk. You never know who is fumbling with the ignition in front of the bar round the corner.

Wow! Good to hear that you're OK.

How stupid from the hospital! Now that drunk guy gets away unpunished.

welcome back Ankit,
Hope you are ok now. A similar incident happened with me once, while I was walking with my girlfriend in a very narrow internal lane with high traffic and casually extended my arm out to point at something. I didn't check behind me before doing so and as luck would have it, at that very moment a helmet less rider on a speeding bike appeared out of nowhere to zoom past, and I ended up slapping the rider hard right on his mouth with the back of my hand and then my hand recoiled back and I slapped myself on the chest. All within a span of half a second. The bastard sped away, leaving me with a wet hand but my girlfriend really abused him badly and I started getting scared because they were 2 of them on the bike so I tried looking in other directions acting like I didn't know her very well.

Now someone told me the real reason why they didn't record the name of that guy. You see there are charges for treatment done to you. If they record the name in a register, then the income goes to the hospital. If no name is recorded, then the income goes into the pocket of the nurse. I went to the same hospital for my dressing and they took 20Rs from me and didn't record my name or anything. Its like I never went there.

ah well, you can expect that in India. I can imagine being disturbed by such an incident myself. Try to forget it and keep yourself occupied with something else. Atleast you are alive and your bones will be stronger now

Either we have an alien on the ranch or the nurse attached an extra finger on Ankit's hand as a gesture of good will. Whatever it is, its freaky

I was talking about both hands so a total of 10 fingers (or 8 fingers and 2 thumbs). But just the thought of an alien on ranch is interesting ...

Hi,

I guess all of us from India knows about the killer "Blueline" buses.

I was one of its victim,
I was driving from office in Delhi to Gurgaon to attend an interview.I was on bike driving at a modest speed of 40 km/hr.
I had to take a right turn on the road, so i tried to overtake this blueline bus, and suddenly this idiot driver made a sharp right turn, without any warning...
The road did not had the divider, and a big SUV was coming from other side, i had to apply the brake without letting the bike to slip.

I did that but unfortunately the bus hit me in the elbow. It was bleeding very badly....i got of the bike and shouted at the driver, to my surprise he came out of the bus and tied a piece of cloth to my wound and asked to forgive.

Thankfully i got only five stiches in the elbow.

I let him go, since i had an interview, went to a doctor, got the stitches and went for the interview....i completely messed it up and started for home.

Now this highway from Gurgaon to my place is deserted..... with only few wine shops and dhabbas (small eating places).I was driving again, and it started raining, i went to one of the wine shop, took some snacks and asked humbly for a plastic, so that i can tied it around my elbow. That wine shop guy gave it to me and even tied.

It was very bad day in my life....i still feel numb when i re-collect this incident.
