Currently, SCWCD tests the candidate exposure, knowledge on Java servlets and JSP.
With the advent of so much web-oriented technologies in the last few years, the SCWCD test looks completely outdated.
Does it have the right, updated essence to quantify a certified candidate?

Yes, i understand there are so many technologies that are coming up everyday - it is very difficult to include one or exclude one!
But it definitely needs some improvement.

Charles Lyons, Can you provide your opinion on the above?. And what are the basic web technologies an aspiring web developer should be aware.

Others, please provide your inputs as well.

By the way, i am trying hard, reading for SCWCD to get it cleared within next two months.
Let us see, how it goes.

All the best.

Enjoy Web programming!

I don't think it is. SCWCD is about fundamentals, that the technologies you're thinking about are built on. Check this thread.

The purpose of the exam is to test the foundation. All the frameworks build on it, so why would they replace its usefulness.

You still want to learn other technologies, but the basics are most important.

You're best off seeing my replies in the Is the certification still relevant? and SCWCD relevance threads.

And no, I don't think SCWCD is outdated at all. Actually, very little has changed in Java EE Web tier over the last 5 years. Even Java EE 6 doesn't include any radically new features. There is the addition of JSF as a standard Java EE component, but I really don't think that should be in the SCWCD exam, as then some other fundamental technology would need to be removed to make room. Plus frameworks are often a matter of personal choice, feature sets or convenience, where one framework does not fit all projects. SCWCD provides the foundation for you to utilise any framework you should later require.
