sending email .. how to know what smtp server to use?

Yes, how would I know what properties to use when sending email from a java method?

At the very minimum you need to know the:

SMTP Server Host Name OR IP Addresss
SMTP Port (if it is non-default i.e if it is not 25)

And if it requires authentication, you also need to know the:
UserName/Password to authenticate.

Your Internet provider that you normally use to send and receive e-mail on your computer can tell you what the name or IP address of their SMTP server is and what settings you need to use.
