there are 3 types of listeners in servlets:

context
session, and
request

as per javax.servlet API, why is it that context and session listener interfaces extend java.util.EventListener but request listeners do not?

Checkout the javax.servlet.ServletRequestListener docs. It shows that it extends the java.util.EventListener interface (and so does ServletRequestAttributeListener)...

Ok. I have javadoc for servlets and perhaps it is a mistake there. thanks.

You're right to be confused. The J2EE1.4 version does not extend it. (javax.servlet.ServletRequestListener)
