Pentaho Reports serialize as a document bundle, similar to open office file formats. The file is a zip that consists of XML and other binary resources such as images that might be in your report. The Java API can be used to generate these serialized reports. The book covers the file formats involved and demonstrates how to build a report via the Java API.
