Software market in USA

Hello friends,

I am thinking of going on H1 through a consultant... However, before I do so, I need to figure out that weather will I get any job in current situation, based on my current experience and skill level.
Right now I am working as a senior Java developer for a USA based company,

I have around 4 years of experience of developing and maintaining apps on Java/J2ee and related technologies. I have worked on core Java/J2ee (servlets, JSP, EJB),Ajax, with intermediate knowledge of Spring/Hibernate/JPA/Dojo.. etc

Can any one comment on what's my chance of getting a Job and may be payscale.

What answer do you expect here? Getting or not getting a job depends on your skill level, experience and ofcourse the job availability. But given the economic slowdown, I would say that it is not the right time for a move.

I was under the impression the employers need to file for H1.

As what i have read on newspaper American economy is still in the process of recovering.It would take some time to full fledge.Meanwhile they are asking highly specialized person for any skills.So In simple word , you can wait for sometime so that your chances for getting job there will be high.

While your statement is right, you surely seem to be not aware of H1 B business (body shopping).
But somehow I feel that you know it.

I am not 100% sure of H1B norms, but employer files it, that is true. These body shoppers when they offer, they file H1B for candidate. So one can get H1B without current job if some US company( mostly they are body shoppers ) offers candidate and then start process.

Currently, if the company can't prove that it has a project right now for the H1B, the application gets rejected, making extremely hard for small companies to sponsor H1B visas. I don't think that applying through a consultant would work... save your money.

I believe company always need good candidate. However, the skill of sale (enough to empress the HR and/or future manager in a short interview) is the key to get you into the door, then, your quality of working and communication makes you stay on top.

The consultants are registered employer in USA, they sponsor people and file H1. Once you land in USA, you will have to find another employer... and pay 20 to 30 percent salary to consultant for a predefined period of time..

At present for Java folks the market is not in great shape.

First, if any consulting company ready to take you to USA, are they going to pay for H1B filing? I don't recommend you paying it in first place. Let them pay for you.

Second, Assume you got h1b visa, is it right time to come? I guess not. Holiday season is going to start - Thanks giving, Christmas, new year around corner. Market will pick up if it does from mid January or Feb. And the rate your company is going to get paid could be very less (may be $45/hr).
Then you can imagine how much you are going get out of it.

Third, for Java guys, this is not the right time. I would stay put where ever I work at present be it India or Pakistan or UK and not worry abt US $$.

My intention is not to demotivate you but letting you know the reality here.
