I am a Java Programmer and I wish to prepare for the new SCJP exam, i.e., Sun Java Programmer Plus certification. However, from all the information that I could gather on this new exam from JavaRanch and other web sites, I could not make out the exact nature of the 'performance based questions' Sun is planning to include in this exam.

Can any of the beta testers of this exam comment on the type/ format of the questions in the Sun Java Programmer Plus certification.

Thanks.

cheers
Lewis

The SCJP plus exam is delayed by several months. It should happen some time next year. Hopefully

I don't think there is a beta program at this time; that, too, seems to have been postponed. And what with the uncertainties of the Oracle/Sun acquisition, I wouldn't expect Sun to make significant changes -or devote significant resources- to the certification programs at the current time.

Hi Ulf

Sun selected 200 participants for the initial beta testing of this new certification exam, which were held from 21 July - 31 july 2009. Sun delayed the final beta testing for later this year.

Sun sent the following email to all the particpants who registered for the beta exam:

Thank you for your interest in the Sun Java Programmer Plus Certification Sun's first performance based Java Certification exam.
We wanted to inform you that the full beta for the new Sun Java Programmer Plus Certification has been delayed to later in this year based on the results from initial beta testing and to align more closely with the upcoming release of JDK 7. We will get back in touch with you as soon as we have revised dates for the full beta test. If you have any questions or feedback, please send a message to sunlearninglink@sun.com

Based on this, I hope Sun should be out with the final beta exam by December and the exam by Mar-Apr next year!

My initial question: Was any of the Java ranchers selected as an initial beta tester on this exam and can comment on the format/ type of questions?

cheers

I don't think this is valid. The full beta was supposed to be in late July and is what got postponed. (I wouldn't hold your breath on it happening this year.) The initial beta had been limmited and presumably before July.

The e-mail you quoted was sent to everyone who applied for the late July beta.
