Is Stub generation still needed ?

Hi,
I've seen here and there that stub generation is strictly wanted by examiners, despite not needed to run the program. I have seen nothing about it in my B&S subject, received in October 2009.

Have I miss something, or things have changed ?

Thank you,
Nicolas

Hi Nicolas,

Regarding to the instructions it is still required. So not generating them could end in an automatic failure (because violating a must requirement). But Roberto Perillo for example didn't generate them and passed (and added this decision to his choices.txt as well as written it on his essay exam).
I didn't decide to take any risk and I generate them, because it's not hard (certainly not if you use an Ant-script to build your submission jar, like I did). That Ant-script can be found at the bottom of the ScjdFaq.

Kind regards,
Roel

In my opinion, this is sort of an obscure question... I know that it is written in the instructions.html file that "You must provide all classes pre-installed so that no dynamic class downloading occurs". As my good buddy Roel said, I didn't provide these stubs... I said that, since I was using Java 6, it wasn't necessary anymore... and I wanted to prove my theory and didn't provide these files. I also mentioned this in my essay exam... maybe they didn't read it

Hi Nicolas,

I explained in my choices.txt that I generated the stubs although it is not necessary if you use Java 6 (or 5), but that it was a must and I didn't want to take any automatic failure risk.

Kind regards,
Roel

Ok, I've got that on my paper in "Restriction on RMI" paragraph. As I never used RMI, I just don't know what a stub is Well, I have now a better idea. And a book

Thanks all, I will do all the stub stuff.
