I received a HTC magic a few days back. It is a sim unlocked version. Now as I was facing problems with running internet based applications in the simulator (refer:topic) , I thought to use the device itself for testing.
I now needed the gprs settings for enabling the internet access on the device. I am based in India and use Airtel as my carrier. I received the settings as a message and saved them. I also got the confirmation message that the settings were saved. But it seems the device still can't access the internet. I tried to enter the settings manually , at the location Settings->Mobile Networks->Access point names, but the field seems to be disabled now. I am unable to enter anything manually.
To use GPRS on your phone, you should have the service activated on your SIM. If you have the service activated and the phone registered to the providers network, try restarting the phone. Call Airtel service center, they should be able to help you with the settings.
Thanks for the quick reply. I have solved the problem
It seems the settings I received as configuration message from the operator, was not compatible with the device(maybe a generic setting).
Since I was not able to edit the existing APN, I created a new one, giving the standard values which we use in other phones(like apn name and server). GPRS is running fine and I am able to run the application .
Thanks for help. Now I know whom to ask, if I get stuck again
