I've created an open source project on Google code: "JAVASHOT" http://code.google.com/p/javashot/ which generates .dot files for an executing Java program.
Those files can be viewed by the tools from graphviz http://www.graphviz.org/.
The aim of the project is to help developer understand the execution flow of a running Java program.
Your feedbacks are welcome.
Thanks.

I'll take a look at it later this week--I did a very similar project some time ago to generate sequence diagrams as part of a codebase comprehension suite I'm working on.

I sure do enjoy tools that do my documentation work for me!

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
