What is the differences between Portlet and Servlet?

Hi Friends..

i want to know what's the differences between Portlet and Servlet?..
as far as i browse the book, the Portlet is similiarly with Servlet..
and for what reason we've to use Portlet?..
please correct me if i'm wrong..

For this the best place to start will be understanding JSR 168 which is the specification for Portlet. In very short I can tell you that a Portlet and Servlet follow the same life cycle.

A quick Google search of servlet vs. portlet will yield a lot of very good explanations.
