Who is your target user group? Children? Grown up men? Women? Senior citizens?
This criteria will define the interest group.

Children might be more interested in educational stuff. If you can club animation and music along, you will have their utmost attention. Along with this, let them play around the computer. Let them touch, feel and do stuff. Simple things like drawing shapes and filling them with colors go a long way. I have taught small kids in summer camps. I know what I am talking about. Try to get some education authority involved to make this a learning as well as fun experience.

Grown ups? Villagers? Farmers? Would they be interested in current produce prices in town? Weather? New ideas to make the village self sustainable? Maybe something to do with the environment where the villagers can contribute? Some government schemes aimed at villagers? Maintain the administrative records of the village in a database?

Women? Senior citizens? How about virtual tours of religious places? Something which will help them share their experiences? Elderly people almost always have something to share with someone. Give them a forum to do it. A history database of the village? Many times elderly people have long term memory for specific incidents, like the year someone's daughter got married and there was a huge storm.

As you can see, you should be talking to the villagers than asking us. Usability science always dictates that the actual user should always be considered whenever possible. Go to the villagers. Talk to them. Find out what would interest them. If you do not have any users, your system would be of no use.
