parsing Xml files using servlets

i have a list of user names and passwords in an xml file.... i was wondering if thers an api available to allow me to read those values from the xml file so that ill be able to validate users in my web app.

Java has the JAXP API for parsing XML; a quick search for that will find plenty of articles and sample code. In the long run you may want to use a more standard way of authenticating users that integrates with servlet security. For example, Tomcat has the concept of a Realm for that.
