a dumb question about Callback method  RSS feed

Can someone explain what is "callback" method for me please?

for example, the destroy method is always a container callback method...

thanks...

I think that callback method is the one which is invoked by the container - not by ourselves. We should not invoke callback methods. Correct me if I am wrong.
