I'm not getting any feedback from any companies

Hi everybody,

I have given interviews in 6 big companies in India in last 30 days. Almost all had requirments for more than 2 yrs i.e. 2-4 yrs experience.I have an experience of 1.6 yrs & not working since 1.2 yrs.

I dont think I am bad technically & also good at interviews but no replies from any companies.
I must add here that in every interview I have performed well & with confidence.

I dont know where I'm going wrong.
Its frustating & leading to make the feeling that may be I'm not the right candidate for the post of software engineer/developer.
I dont know now what shall I do.

Need your openions.

Customs vary from company to company and country to country, but it might be courteous to send an interviewer to the unsuccessful candidates and tell them how they did. In some instances it is "you did well, but somebody else did better."

You mentioned that you weren't working for last 1.2 years. This might be one of the factors that can make recruiters sceptical about you. Make sure you have a good explanation for that. See if you can justify something like "although I wasnt formally working, I wasn't out of touch with programming".

Which companies are you trying with ? Generally at 1-3 years experience level, service based companies prefer people with working knowledge of diverse technologies whereas a product based company would be more corcerned with your understanding of algorithms, data structures etc. So, prepare accordingly.

Since you were working previously, is it feasible going back to your previous employer ? If yes, you may want to consider that.

Some of your ex colleagues would have moved to other companies by now. Why dont you ask them to forward your CV to their respective HR folks ?

Don't want to shake your confidence, but this is a self-assessment, and doesn't necessarily reflect what the interviewer thought. Nobody is a good fit everywhere, and maybe they got the impression that you wouldn't be good fit for their particular environment.

Some companies doesn't send any mails to the unsuccessful candidates. But it may be a case of whether to hire you or not for the companies so they are not sending any feedback.
You should certainly drop a mail to their HR and ask for the feedback

What does it mean?? Is it mean the environment of software/IT or what???
And all 6 companies will think that ??

Well normally if company does not get back to you in week or two, you have to understand you are not selected. It depends on companies. Most IT companies will let you know after the interview if you are selected; if you are not selected, they will not tell you. That you will have to judge it. For non IT companies like IB,Finance,Pharma companies who hire IT professionals for their captive development centers, processes are different than IT companies. They may ( or may not ) take one or two weeks even if your interview is very good. About indian IT companies, you can not say anything. They will call you for interview even if your resume does not match to what they are looking for. They want to create big big crowd on Saturday. It's actually HR strategy also why they call so many people on the same day for interview. It helps them in many ways. Well that is off-topic.

My advice is if your interview is good (both technical and hr ), and if you have not spoken anything in HR interview which they did not want hear, then you can call HR consultant and ask them. If there is no HR consultant involved, send an e-mail / or call HR of company. But if you are selected, company itself will get back to you.

Every next week I called up the HR and there answer was "it will take some more time to shortlist the candidate and if you are the one we'll get back to you"
But then no feedback.
I know than I've not got shortlisted.
But can it be because of the recession time?
Can recession be one of the reasons??
Or its just because I am not proving the best. I want to know just your assumptions.

You can't reasonably expect us to speculate on why you might not have gotten called back - we don't know you, we don't know those companies, and we don't know those companies recruiting strategies. It could have been a different reason at each one of them: maybe they decided not to fill the position because of the economic situation, maybe they decided on someone else, maybe they postponed hiring someone by a few weeks/months, maybe you weren't strong enough technically, maybe you weren't the right fit for their team socially, maybe they didn't like your attitude or your face, maybe there was no open position and they were just interviewing to create the illusion of there being open positions, maybe they have incompetent interviewers that don't know a good developer from a bad one - any of these (and more) are possibilities, and you'll never know which one it was.

You'll definitely have to have a good story about your time off - how did you make sure your skills kept up-to-date, and how can you prove it to them. A project (personal or open source) that you can demonstrate and talk about would be good for that.

Your experience is less. So in current situation you will have tough time. Do not call companies again and again. Probably they interviewed you, you preformed well in interview, but they are waiting for project. But don't wait for any company. My suggestion is keep searching. Probably you may get several setbacks before getting an offer. Make yourself mentally prepared for that.

Sit back and relax. If there is no reply, it does not mean they rejected you. Companies usually send out an email or phone you to tell you that you have been selected / rejected.

Keep trying for other opportunities and do not be discouraged.
