hello,

various sources mention Serialization as an exam topic for some SCJP version. According to Sun it is not and has never been part of any recent SCJP version.

Is there any truth in this rumor?

So it seems. Perhaps some one that has taken the exam recently can comment about this. I do recollect this question being asked before though. A search on the SCJP forum should help

hello,

I searched the forum back to March without success (and I am not interested in older answers). But according to archive.org (will load very slowly) it was there and has been removed later.

Recently Sun has been 'tweaking' the exam's objectives. What's been a little confusing is that these 'tweaks' haven't always been rolled out to the world in perfect synchronization

I don't know if it's possible, but it might be worth asking your Prometric center for details about the version of the exam they're giving.

We hear the following kind of statement from our SCJP trainees many times, "...I didn't think they would ask about it because it wasn't mentioned in the objectives, but I glad I studied it anyway." This could be because of the reason that Bert mentioned or because of something else.

Another issue is that every topic does not necessarily have a clearly defined area. It may unintentionally touch upon some other topic that has not been explicitly mentioned in the objectives.

Regardless, we believe that there is no harm in reading/learning a few extra things that seemingly are beyond official exam objectives. Because no matter whose fault it is, it is the candidate who loses the marks
