Greetings Ms Poppendieck,

Based on the TOC, the book looks like a great collection of pragmatic guidelines. Are there any sample chapters available, particularly an intro/preface that helps overview the goals of the book in more detail?

On the surface, it looks like it might compare to approach of The Art of Agile by James Shore, on the agile side. Is this an apt comparison, or is there another book to better compare it to that captures a similar approach, depth level, and audience (except from an agile perspective)?

thanks,
Jeff L.

Hi Jeff,

The introduction to the book can be found here: http://www.poppendieck.com/pdfs/LLSD_intro.pdf
Chapter 1 can be found here: http://ptgmedia.pearsoncmg.com/images/9780321620705/samplepages/0321620704_Sample.pdf

Jim Shore's book is a very good book, but it is aimed at a different audience - it has great advice for developers, teams, and team leads. Leading Lean Software Development is aimed at organizational leaders. Books you might compare it to would be "Outside-in Software Development" by Carl Kessler and John Sweitzer, and "Freedom from Command and Control" by John Seddon.
