Can we control how IE start up the JVM for running applets? For example, passing specific command line parameters to jvm to control how memory is allocated.

Check the settings of the Java Plugin control panel. I'm not positive but it may have some settings specifically for applets.

Yes, under the Control Panel->Java icon->Java Tab->View, there is a column called runtime parameters which looks promising. However, after I have changed it to say "-Dtest=abc ", my applet still cannot pick it up. Is there any mistake I've made?

You've restarted the browser after making that change, right?

Thanks, I haven't. And that is the issue. I just keep waiting for the java.exe process to end thinking that it is the only thing that would pickup the parameters.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
