Class.getDeclaredFields() only return the fields declared by a subclass excluding those inherited. Is there a simple way to list all fields - inherited or declared? Should I just loop through the inheritance structure to enquire the declared fields of the superclasses one by one?

Yep I think you'll just have to loop your way up the inheritance tree.
