Job market in USA now

+Pie Number of slices to send: Send
Hi,

I would like to know How is the Job market in USA for the Java / J2ee programmer now for 5 yrs experience candidate?

Is the skills Java, Jsp, Servlets, Struts 1.1, XML, XSL enough to get the job in USA ?

Those who went to USA in 2008, please provide your valuable input. How difficult was to get the job ?

Please let me know other mandatory skills which needs to be learnt to get a job.

Thanks in advance
Krishna N

These are not skills, these are technologies. Having knowledge of how they work, also is not a "skill." An individual's ability to proficiently write code with these technologies is the "skill."

The ability to recite memorized facts about these technologies is not a "skill."

So, if you have strong programming skills AND good communication skills AND can demonstrate a good understanding of these technologies in an interview, then you might be able to find a job in the USA.

Good luck!

Thank you for the info.

So that means even if we are not working on latest technologies then also we have chances of getting the job ?

I thought others who went to USA for Java / J2ee jobs would also share their experience.

Thanks in advance.

please help.

Yes, very good. Everything is not about the "lastest technologies" and none of the technologies that you mentioned can be considered new. Each one of them has been around for at least 10 years.

There is a risk associated with using "new" technologies and changing something that works just because a new version has been released is not a good business or technical decision. Don't be misled by internet marketing materials or opinionated opinions about technologies. Good luck!

P.S. U.S.A. is a very big country and a so-called "job market" varies from state to state and from region to region. And also varies from industry to industry. If you have strong communication skills and "real 5" years experience using Java, then you shouldn't have any real difficulty finding a position in the U.S.A. (East coast).
