Need a Tool for creating shell scripts in Unix

Why would you need a tool for that? What kind of shell scripts are you planning? Text editor is all you need.

I'm new in unix. I would like to write a script for monitoring the weblogic server. I want to have a script that checks the weblogic once in a while if it's up and running. if not running, will send an email to me. any idea?

I found grep command in unix , but dont know hw to use it with weblogic actually .

Forget about UNIX for a minute. How do you know if the server is up if you check manually?

When you get to writing shell scripts, the key is to do so in small pieces. Can you look at a file, can you send an e-mail, etc.

Jeanne , i think so you want to write a script which will automatically login in your system and then log out. You will define some time interval to get response from the server . if with in that time you will not get response from the server it means that your server is not up.

Correct me if i am wrong.
