Contract possible contract to hire opportunity for a Java Developer in Portland OR. Mid-level to Senior level developer needed leading all facets of the software development life cycle (SDLC). Responsibilities include technical design of Java applications including technical specifications, use cases, class diagrams, database schema, overseeing coding efforts, unit testing and code reviews, coordinating all IT and UAT testing tasks for the development team, managing all work around reported defects, performing application builds, and coordinating implementations to the various development, test and production environments. Also responsible for maintaining Java coding standards and best practices, mentoring junior developers, and reporting status to management.

4-year degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or equivalent work experience
5+ years Java/J2EE experience
2+ years Struts frameworks, JSPs, design work, and leading (or mentoring) other developers
2+ years designing database tables, writing stored procedures and triggers, and normalization
Other required skills include: WSAD 5.1.2 or RAD 6.0, SQL Server, UML, Source Code Management
A thorough understanding of Authentication, Authorization, Digital Certificates, Firewalls, Protocols and the overall SDLC process is required
Pluses include any experience with Hibernate and Spring frameworks, HTML, JavaScript, JSLT, MQ, JMS, ClearCase, WebFocus, and DB2 (UDB)
Any experience in the financial and investments industry is also desirable

Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) are required
Self initiating with little supervision
Strong team player
Ability to multi-task
